Who is My Nhan? Monterey Park Shooting Victim Identified

Authorities are still investigating the rationale behind the shooting spree that left 10 people dead and another 10 injured at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, on Saturday night. The shooter, Huu Can Tran, 72, of Hemet, passed away during a confrontation with law officers some 25 miles away. Only two of the ten victims have been named.

Around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, amid Lunar New Year celebrations, gunfire broke out at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, which is located at 122 West Garvey Avenue in this largely Asian area a few miles east of Downtown Los Angeles.

Huu Can Tran committed a mass murder in which My Nhan, a 1958 baby, perished. After a night of Lunar New Year celebrations, a shooter opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio in the Monterey Park neighborhood of the San Gabriel Valley on Saturday night, killing ten people in all. The victims were recognized by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

When she passed away, she was 65 years old.

Twenty to thirty minutes after the shooting in Monterey Park, according to the authorities, Tran entered the Lai Lai Ballroom in nearby Alhambra. Tran allegedly owned a semi-automatic handgun that was magazine fed and had an additional, large-capacity magazine attached to it.

“I can tell you that the suspect entered the location possibly intending to kill additional people, but two courageous members of the neighborhood chose to take immediate action and disarm the suspect. When they did, the suspect fled, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, who also claimed to have taken control of the firearm.

A white van observed by witnesses leaving the scene was described to authorities. At a strip mall in Torrance on Sunday, the 72-year-old gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a van.
